Drivers in Cambridge are in for some delays on Maple Grove Road starting next week.
The first phase of a construction project on that road is expected to begin on June 2 between Hespeler Road and Beaverdale Road until December.
Some improvements to be made on the road, including widening the lanes from two to four, a new asphalt multi-use path, a new roundabout at Hespeler Road, new streetlights, stormwater and drainage improvements and Ellis Creek bridge rehabilitation.
The region says that two-way traffic will still be accessible during construction on the road at all times, as the road is used as an emergency Highway 401 detour route. A staff report also says that Fisher Mills Road will be temporarily closed during the summer, but that has yet to be decided by city staff.
In total, the first phase of the project is expected to cost $12.5 million, including the $10,792,000 construction tender, taxes, permits and engineering fees. According to council documents, it’s around $3,000,000 under budget.
The construction is part of the larger project to improve Maple Grove Road from Hespeler Road to Vondrau Drive. For the future phases between 2026-2030 there is $57.4 million available.
A concept video created by the region of what the improvements on Maple Grove Road is expected to look like can be seen below.
