It’s all smiles at participating Tim Hortons locations in Waterloo Region this week as Smile Cookies are once again being sold in support of local charities.
One of them is KidsAbility.
“We’ve had a long-term partnership of 16 years with Tim Hortons,” Jennifer Foster, KidsAbility CEO, said. “They’ve donated over $1.3 million through the campaign to KidsAbility over those 16 years.”
Foster and KidsAbility volunteers were on hand Wednesday at the 4285 King St. E. location in Kitchener, decorating cookies.
While it’s fun, Foster admitted it’s not that easy.
“It is harder than you think! It really is. There is a knack to it.”
One of those volunteers is Joshua Bakermann, who has been volunteering with KidsAbility for more than a decade and is also a former client.
“I went there from when I was 16 months to about 5 years old, so I have a lot of childhood memories of the KidsAbility location in Waterloo,” Bakermann explained. “They helped me so much, they helped me become the person I am today and without their help… I do not know where I’d be.”

Foster called the community support for the campaign “phenomenal” and said they feel very fortunate.
“Smile Cookie week is one of those weeks when the community wraps their arms around KidsAbility and supports the wonderful work we do. We serve over 17,000 children in the community and we are providing support for physical needs, communication needs, behavioural needs, and social needs.”
Across the Tri-Cities, proceeds from Smile Cookies will also benefit Nutrition for Learning and the Cambridge Food Bank this year.
The campaign runs until Sunday May 4.
