It’s officially the start of the new season for several golf courses across Waterloo Region, with Kitchener set to tee off its season on Friday.
Lisa Collins, the manager of sport development and golf with the City of Kitchener, said Doon Valley Golf Course will open April 18, with Rockway Golf Course set to open April 25, weather permitting. Despite this season’s random snowstorms and excessive rain, which have kept them on their toes, she said, the course conditions look favourable.
“We had a fantastic response to our membership launch and it just shows how eager people are to get back out on the course,” said Collins. “Kitchener’s golf community continues to grow and feels like more interest across all ages and skill levels. It’s really exciting.”
She adds that the golf academy is back this season, which includes lessons, adult, junior and inclusive programs and summer camps. Collins notes that golfers can expect courses to be a bit wetter early in the season, and that they also still compete with frost as well.
“You can also expect our tees times will fluctuate,” said Collins.
Several courses across the region that are owned by Golf North are already open; including New Dundee, Foxwood, Rebel Creek, Grey Silo, RiverEdge and Conestoga Golf Club.
The website says Beaverdale in Cambridge will also be opening on Friday.
