More than 1,100 new units of housing could be on the way in Kitchener through the final phase of a development that’s been in the works for more than a decade.
The Victoria Commons development in the Margaret Avenue and Wellington Street area, as it exists right now, is a cluster of townhomes and a pair of small condo towers nestled within a neighbourhood that includes a school and public transit.
The development’s final phase will look to add three high-rise condominium towers ranging from 21 to 35-storeys tall. The towers are set to home a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom units.
Residents of the towers will have access to indoor amenity space, parking, an outdoor plaza and more.

The development is just north of the Kitchener GO Station, as well as the future site of of a 40-storey tower set to be built on Victoria Street North.
There is plenty left to be done before this development gets anywhere near the construction phase. The city will need to tweak the Zoning Bylaw and Official Plan, and the towers will have to come before committees and councils.
On Tuesday evening, the community had its first chance to learn and share at a public meeting held over Zoom.
