The Kitchener Rangers have extended the ongoing win streak to five games after defeating the Erie Otters at The Aud.
Erie got the scoring going first just four minutes into the first period, hanging onto the lead through to the middle of the second when Luke Ellinas tied the game on a Kitchener power play.
570 Colour Commentator, Paul Fixter, says despite the struggles the team might have seen throughout the course of the power play, the important aspect was that they were able to, at least, make it pay off with a goal.
“Make no mistake, goaltender Noah Erlidin for the Erie Otters was outstanding tonight. He was third star, but could have easily been a second or first star,” said Fixter. “I think the power play didn’t get more goals than one because of his play. I think they had some real good looks and there’s lots to build off of from that.”
Evan Headrick, the Rangers’ first-round pick, along with Cameron Arquette would then add on a goal each throughout the remainder of the game to lock in the victory for the Rangers.
Fixter says there’s a lot of good to see in Headrick’s game, scoring the game-winner in his Rangers debut.
“He was involved and had a lot of fun out there,” he said. “I think this has been a tremendous ride for him just to start his season, his young season here. He’s going to be a fun player to watch for a lot of years and, in the coach’s words, I really like him.”
He goes on to say that the Rangers really have the Otters locked down, with this being the fourth defeat in a row that Erie has seen battling against Kitchener.
“They’ve made a separation of 17 points in the standings. That’s quite a large number, it’s almost insurmountable for Erie to climb back up there. Kitchener now has to carry that on.”
The Blueshirts now get a day off before heading to Guelph on Sunday, Jan. 5, to take on their Highway 7 rivals in Guelph at Sleeman Centre.
The game will start at 2:07 p.m. and you can catch all the action on 570 NewsRadio beginning with the pre-game show at 1:30 p.m. hosted by Mike Farwell and Paul Fixter.
