No heavy vehicles on Freeport Bridge until rehabilitation work is over

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Heavy vehicle access is being restricted on the Freeport Bridge in Kitchener as part of an upcoming rehabilitation project.

The Region of Waterloo has scheduled the rehabilitation work for 2025 but preparation will begin this week.

As of April 16, signs restricting heavy vehicle access will be posted in the area.

The affected vehicles include fully loaded tractor-trailers, dump trucks, concrete trucks, waste collection trucks and buses.

Fire trucks will also be prohibited and will use Highway 8 instead.

All other vehicles like cars, vans, pick-up trucks, light-duty delivery trucks, and ambulances will still be allowed to use the bridge.

The heavy vehicle restrictions will stay in place until the bridge rehabilitation project is finished.
