PHOTOS: Rangers rally takes over downtown Kitchener

Thousands of Kitchener Rangers fans took over downtown Kitchener Tuesday afternoon to send the team off to Kelowna, B.C., for the Memorial Cup.

Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic was among the many loudly chanting “Let’s go Rangers!”

“It’s a proud moment for Kitchener as we come together to celebrate the Kitchener Rangers and their amazing season thus far,” said Vrbanovic.

“In a recent playoff game, over 7,200 fans were in the Aud, and over the entire season, more than 254,000 people cheered on the Rangers.”

Burgundy Young was one of the fans celebrating downtown. Holding season tickets for 15 years strong, she said she is ready for the Memorial Cup to come back to Kitchener.

“We don’t just rock the Aud, Kitchener rocks Canada! We’re winning it!”

The Memorial Cup runs from Thursday, May 21, to Sunday, May 31.

Game one for the Kitchener Rangers is Friday, May 22, against host Kelowna Rockets.
