Uptown Waterloo nightclub closes after lease termination

By Erin Anderson

A nightclub that first opened in Uptown Waterloo five years ago is now closed permanently.

Erb and Culture confirmed the closure on social media this week.

A post on Instagram and Facebook read, “We regret to inform you that Erb and Culture will be closed effective immediately into the foreseeable future. We are extremely sorry for any inconvenience caused and do hope to make it up to all of you.”

A notice was affixed to the club’s doors at 24 King Street North which stated the commercial tenancy had been terminated.

“It is in breach of the lease, for basic rent, additional rents rental arrears, past due incurrences, arrears instalments, applicable taxes, plus other expenses incurred. Please contact Landlord for amounts owing.”

The notice is dated Apr. 10 and said the tenants had five days to clear out the space so the landlord can re-rent the location.

The social media post from the nightclub did not address the notice of lease termination but said, “We are deeply appreciative of the memories and thousands of guests who joined us over the last five years!”

Attempts to contact the operators of Erb and Culture for comment were unsuccessful.
