Impaired driver arrested by police after colliding with ION train in Kitchener

Police arrested a Mount Forest female on Saturday night after she collided with an ION train while driving impaired.

Waterloo Regional Police responded to reports of the impaired driver at about 9:15 p.m. on March 9 in the area of Charles St. E and Cameron St. S.

She was seen striking a fire hydrant, hitting curbs, and driving on the Light Rail Transit tracks where she struck an occupied ION train.

Police later located her and placed her under arrest. They later charged the 54-year-old woman with failure to remain, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and operation while impaired. She will appear in court on April 3.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Westbound traffic on Charles St. E between Stirling Ave. and Cameron St. will be closed for an unknown amount of time for repairs.
