Longtime community leader, Wendi Campbell passes away

A longtime community leader has passed away.

Wendi Campbell, the former CEO of the Food Bank of Waterloo Region passed away Monday after a 19-month battle with brain cancer.

She was 53.

“Wendi’s vision to make our community a better place was central to everything she did. She instilled these values throughout our whole family, and led us to do our own remarkable things,” said in her obituary, posted on the Henry Walser Funeral Home website.

It was announced last month that Campbell would not be returning to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region. She had been on a medical leave after her cancer diagnosis in June 2022.

Campbell was the CEO for 15 years and an employee for 25 years.

A visitation will be held at the Henry Walser Funeral Home on Jan. 28. There will be a celebration of life being held at the University of Waterloo Mar. 10.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region, the House of Friendship, St. Mary’s General Hospital Foundation and the Kitchener Rangers Community Fund.
