Waterloo man charged after gift card fraud investigation

A 32-year-old man from Waterloo is facing multiple charges following a gift card fraud investigation that started in February.

The charges include identity fraud, fraud under $5,000, flight from police officer, dangerous operation, possess – use credit card data and failure to comply with release order.

After gaining credit card information fraudulently from multiple victims, the man purchased restaurants gift cards.

These gift cards were for a variety of restaurants across the region.

In November, police were called to one of these restaurants when the man was there using the gift cards.

He then fled from police after providing them a false identity when they showed up on scene, but was later caught on December 21.

The arrest was made in Waterloo near Father Bauer Drive and Caroline Street South.
