Avidbots lays off 14 per cent of global workforce

There are more layoffs in the tech sector.

The CEO and co-founder of Avidbots confirmed the job cuts to CityNews 570 on Wednesday.

“We've made the very difficult decision to restructure our global team to better align our operations with macroeconomic conditions and improve our efficiency in delivering new products to market to further meet our customer's needs,” said a statement from Faizan Sheikh. “This one-time restructuring will affect 14 percent of our workforce globally.”

Sheikh added, “While this was not an easy decision to make, we believe this transition is an important step in going back to our roots as a lean and efficient robotics company.”

The head office for the autonomous cleaning robot manufacturing company is located in Kitchener, but it's not clear how many local employees have been affected.

This follows other layoffs in the tech industry over the past year here at home and across the globe, including at Google, Communitech, Applyboard, Amazon, and Meta.
