CMH first hospital in Canada to deploy dedicated facility dog

By Erin Anderson

Cambridge Memorial Hospital has a new staff member.

The hospital is now the first in all of Canada to have a dedicated facility dog.

'Ember' is a certified National Service Dog and she's specially trained to support the mental health and wellbeing of staff, physicians, midwives, and volunteers.

Her 'salary' is initially being funded by the Lyle S. Hallman Foundation as a donation will help cover food and vet bills over the next ten years.

Ember has completed a two-month orientation period and is officially deployed in the field, along with her handler team.
