Woman pleads guilty to Walmart fire in Kitchener

By Mark Pare

A guilty plea for a Kitchener woman after last month's fire at a local Walmart store.

The 42-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of arson after causing $3 million in damage to the Sunrise Centre Walmart location on September 9.

The court heard she was blackout drunk when she set fire to rolls of toilet paper, and used hand sanitizer as an accelerant.

The defense lawyer says his review of the law is that intoxication and blacking out isn't a defense anymore for these types of offenses.

The woman will be sentenced on December 1st.
