Enbridge Gas officials say they were on scene for repairs following a gas leak on Monday, near Church Street and Maple Street in Elmira.
They say the gas leak was caused by damage to a pipeline by a third party contractor installing hydro to a bus shelter.
Natural gas service to about 40 customers in the area was temporarily halted on Monday at approximately 10 a.m. as representatives worked on fixing the damaged pipeline. Repairs to the damaged pipeline are expected to wrap up around 5 p.m. on Monday.
Representatives went door-to-door to each home affected by the gas leak to restore service to customers.
Please note that all Enbridge Gas representatives carry ID, and will leave behind a contact number to call and schedule a time for gas service restoration if an affected customer was not home at the time of the service interruption.
Natural gas service will be restored to all affected homes by Monday evening.
The Church Street and Maple Street area saw an increase in traffic delays on Monday, as representatives worked on restoring natural gas services.
