Tent city still up at Victoria Park

By Aastha Shetty

Tent city protesters are still at Victoria Park.

They are asking the City of Kitchener for more housing and safe injection sites.

Devon Roussel, who lives in a tent at Victoria Park, says “people need to be more aware that there's young people dying… it's not just random people here and there. We need to break the stigma from that because drugs do not discriminate. Addiction in general does not discriminate. It takes all races, ages and creeds… What we have been pushing for over the years is a safe injection site. It has been agreed upon by the region, but what we do need is a location.”

Roussel says the main focus of the protesters at tent city is to end homelessness and find a solution to drug use.

The protesters have been camping at the park for a week now.

Tent city is located right next to a children's playground.
