Staying in the hospital over the holidays is a lousy thing for kids to go through, but some local community groups and businesses are trying to make it less of a burden this year at Grand River Hospital.
Greg Kaut from Twin City Masonic Lodge 509, spearheaded a special gift-giving campaign to make sure every child in the hospital gets a toy.
Wednesday, boxes of toys and bags of stuffed animals were delivered.
Kaut says he has two kids of his own who still have the teddy bear they received when they were in a hospital, although their visits were not over Christmas.
He hopes to expand this toy program to an all-year giving campaign
Donors and partners include the Lodge, Murphy’s Law Distillery in Elmira; the Home Hardware in Elmira; Wolle Realty in Kitchener; Baby Charlotte in Kitchener; and more.
Harvey’s and Swiss Chalet chipped in gift cards as well, so Moms and Dads don’t have to worry about meals while their child is in hospital.
