Two bodies exhumed in connection to Wettlaufer murder trial

The bodies of two of Elizabeth Wettlaufer’s alleged victims have been exhumed.

London Police confirm to 570 News, Tuesday morning the bodies of Arpad Horwath and Helen Matheson were exhumed.

Horwath died in August 2014 and was a resident at Meadow Park nursing home in London. He was buried in St Peter’s Cemetery in London.

Helen Matheson was living at Caressant Care in Woodstock at the time of her death in October of 2011. She was buried in a graveyard near Woodstock.

London Police Media Relations Officer, Sandasha Bough tells 570 News that they can’t speculate as to whether or not more bodies will be exhumed.

“The exhumation is necessary to allow the Ontario Forensic Service an opportunity to conduct an autopsy and collect evidence. The bodies will be examined by a forensic expert to assist with this investigation. When necessary exhumations are conducted, and without getting into specifics, and the reasons why, this was a necessary process that was respectfully carried out.”

The former Ontario nurse is charged with killing seniors in two long-term care homes in London and Woodstock.

Wettlaufer faces eight first degree murder charges, four counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

Police alleged the 49-year-old used drugs to kill the seniors while she worked at the facilities between 2007 and 2014.
