Rangers earn point but still winless at home

Like the Toronto Blue Jays, the Kitchener Rangers were unable to win at home on Friday.
With an overtime goal with one second left on the clock, the Windsor Spitfires flipped the Rangers 3-2 at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium. Both teams continued their streak of achieving a point in each game they’ve played this season.
For the first time in four games, the Rangers gave up the first goal; the only of the opening frame.
Adam Mascherin and Connor Bunnaman sandwiched another Spitfires score in the second period to tie things up heading into the final frame.
Extra hockey was needed, and with the new rules, the teams played 3-on-3 for 4:59, before Arizona Coyotes prospect Christian Fischer made a beautiful move to beat Rangers goalie Luke Opilka.

The loss leaves the Rangers with two straight overtime losses on home-ice to start the season. They dropped their home opener to the Owen Sound Attack in overtime.
The team’s 2015 first-round selection, Greg Meireles made his OHL debut. The slick-skating speedster signed an affiliate contract, meaning he can play up to 10 games with the team this season.
The Spitfires have won five straight since dropping their season-opener to the Erie Otters.
The Rangers have won both games on the road, and are in Mississauga on Sunday at 2 p.m. against the Steelheads, before returning to “The Aud” on Monday afternoon at the same time, to host the Sudbury Wolves.
Earlier in the day, the team announced its new mailing address after the city changed the name of Sherbourne Avenue. The team’s new address is 1963 Eugene George Way, honouring the “Father of the Kitchener Rangers” and the year George brought the team to the city.
