OPP to focus on distracted drivers during long weekend blitz

OPP say they will be out on the roads this upcoming long weekend, looking for distracted drivers.

Forty-one deaths have been attributed to distracted driving on OPP-patrolled roads this year and police say the number of crashes caused by distracted drivers is up 20 per cent compared with this time last year.

Officers will be enforcing new legislation that carries tougher penalties for distracted driving.

As of September 1st, the new set fine for distracted driving is 490 dollars and three demerit points.
