Guelph suspends its cover-up policy

The City of Guelph is suspending its policy that required girls over the age of four, to wear tops at public pools.
The Guelph Mercury reports the city will conduct a review to determine the best way to proceed.
Last weekend, an 8-year-old girl was told by a lifeguard at a wading pool in Exhibition Park, to cover up.
Her mother, Anika Warmington says the policy was sexist and sent a message that girls should hide their bodies.
Guelph’s General Manager of Parks and Recreation, Kristene Scott told the paper it was “an administrative decision” to stop enforcing the policy.
Warmington calls the city’s decision a “positive step forward for girls and women in the city and the province.”
