It is mental health week in Canada…and Lisa Drew’s ‘Mental Health 9-1-1 series continues today – with a focus on local firefighters. We will play that piece shortly…first though – we are joined by Vince Savoia, the Executive Director of Tema Conter Memorial Trust. The men and women of correctional, emergency and military services see tragic events every day – which can be very difficult to cope with. Through research, education, training, and through peer and psychological support, Tema aims to help men and women when they need it most. This year alone, 17 first responders and 5 military members have died by suicide.

The GTAN|START: Waterloo Region’s Ultimate Early-Stage Pitch Competition is an annual event that celebrates dynamic early-stage companies and the Region’s most promising startups. Eight startups will compete for one of three exciting cash prizes: Gold $10,000, Silver $5,000 or Bronze $2,000. As well, all three will be fast tracked to pitch at an upcoming GTAN investment meeting, with the intent on wooing the angel investors into a larger financial investment. The pitch competition takes place this Friday, May 8 from 12-4 p.m. at Bingemans Kingpin Bowlounge.
