12:00 PM – Hamilton (paintball) gun
Constable Steve Welton, Media Relations Officer, Hamilton Police Service
A shock for shoppers Sunday afternoon – as Police in Hamilton carried out a high-risk takedown after receiving numerous calls about a man dressed in black who carried an assault rifle into a mall. It turns out the man was carrying a paintball gun. The man was arrested, but not charged after he told police he’d gone to the mall to shop before travelling to a paintball event. Police say he did not point the gun or threaten anyone…witnesses reported that the man was smoking inside the mall at the time of the incident.
12:30 – Canadian Job Quality At Record Low, No Relief In Sight: CIBC
Nick Exarhos, CIBC Economist.
A major Canadian bank says job quality in Canada is at a record low and shows no sign of turning around. The CIBC Canadian employment quality index was down 1.8 per cent from a year ago. The index measures the distribution of full and part-time jobs, the split between self-employment and paid-employment, and the compensation ranking of full-time paid employment jobs in more than 100 industry groups. The chief culprit is often seen as the growth in the number of part-time jobs, which have risen much faster than full-time employment. However, in the past year, the number of full-time jobs rose twice as fast as the number of part-time jobs – a factor that worked to offset some of the recent softening in the index.
