10:00 – Hep A in Alma/Food inspection WR

A restaurant in Alma has closed its doors after a hepatitis scare…Marj’s Village Kitchen says it was the final straw for the business – which had also been dealing with economic issues. The Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Unit launched a series of vaccination clinics last week for staff and customers after a food handler tested positive for Hep A. So far, about 14 hundred people have gotten shots…anyone who ate there between January 2nd and the 20th should get vaccinated.

This scare got us thinking…how ARE food and restaurants inspected locally? You can actually access public health inspection results in Waterloo Region – through the Region’s website. Just type in your favourite establishment’s name and address – and you can see if there is a certified food handler on site and how many non and critical infractions that place has.

– Big storm coming – Some parts of the U-S Northeast could get up to 60 centimetres of snow between today and tomorrow, as a nor’easter wallops the region. Environment Canada is forecasting 15 to 25 centimetres of snow for southwestern Nova Scotia, about the same amount for P-E-I and even a little more for New Brunswick.
