Laurier acquires 150 acres in Milton

Pending provincial approval – a Wilfrid Laurier University campus will soon be in Milton.
Last night at Milton Town Council, it was decided that 150 acres of land – worth about 50 million dollars – would be donated to the University.
Brian Rosborough, Senior Executive Officer at the Brantford campus says it’s the fastest growing municipality in the country.
“Students who live there have to go elsewhere to get a degree. So Milton and Laurier have been working together in partnership and advocating with the province. This donation of land is extraordinary and a very important indication of the town’s support of this bid.”
In March, the province put out a Request For Proposal for Universities that wanted to expand or create new locations.
Milton and Laurier have been working on creating the campus since 2008.
Rosbourough says they hope to be running limited programming as early as next fall – with the campus fully operational by 2017/2018.
The proposal would initially support 2,500 students.
