It looks like the Stanley Cup will be spending a few days in Waterloo Region this summer.
The Los Angeles Kings won the championship with a 3-2 double overtime victory over the New York Rangers on Friday. LA took the series in five games.
Ayr’s Kyle Clifford brought the cup home when the Kings won the cup back in 2012.
Kitchener’s Tanner Pearson was part of the championship squad this time around. Pearson used to be a stick boy with the Kitchener Rangers. He played junior for the Barrie Colts.
“It’s definitely a dream come true…to win your first year (in the NHL), you can’t really describe it, I’m going to remember this for the rest of my life.” Pearson told CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada.
The other local connections to the Kings are former Kitchener Rangers Captain Mike Richards, ex Guelph Storm players Dustin Brown and Drew Doughty, as well as Woodstock’s Jake Muzzin.
