Truck blitz kicks off on 400-series highways tomorrow

A 24 hour blitz is kicking off at 6 am tomorrow morning – as the OPP and Ministry of Transportation team up for ‘Operation Corridor’ to check commercial vehicles.
Provincial Police say they saw more than 84-hundred collisions involving large commercial vehicles last year — including 68 that resulted in fatalities.
Detachment Commander with the Cambridge OPP, Sgt. John Mraud says the onus of safety is also on the average motorist.
“To makes themselves aware of where they are when they’re around a transport truck. Their visibility and line of sight is much more restricted than what people may imagine. So, give themselves a little space, give trucks a little more space when they’re changing lanes or turning on city streets.”
Provincial Police will be looking for things like speeding, following too closely, faulty equipment and drunk driving.
Mraud tells 570 News that ‘the vast majority of drivers are good, courteous and professional.’
