The Homefront is an inspiring art installation which uses the real stories of the women and men of war inspiration. Hadcock’s exhibition at Tom Thomson Art Gallery in Owen Sound highlights the momentous war effort roles of these individuals and explores the real stories of women and men of war through a large scale collaborative art installation composed of hand-knitted socks. Reflecting back upon the First World War, women had several significant roles with the war effort. The vital roles Canadian women undertook was improving the emotional and physical state of the soldiers off at war through the collective effort of knitting socks. Some women would even write letters of cheer to accompany the sock packages sent to soldiers, giving them that sense of hope and warmth during the dark miserable days of war.

Anti-spam legislation has businesses scrambling to comply. When Canada’s anti-spam legislation (CASL) comes into force July 1, it’s going to affect far more than the purveyors of viruses, Viagra and vanquished Nigerian fortunes. Anyone or any business that deals with commercial electronic messages (CEMs), and from Jan. 15, 2015, the installation of apps and other software programs, will be subject to the sweeping legislation that carries fines of up to $1 million for individuals and up to $10 million for companies. And starting July 1, 2017, recipients of spam will have recourse in lawsuits, whether they’re against individuals or companies that break that law. And it’s not just those emails that fill your inbox. It can apply to texts, social networking messages and other electronic communications. The law’s imminent implementation has some businesses scrambling to ensure they’re onside and others carrying on with marketing plans unaware that the new law affects them.
