Regional Chair Ken Seiling has released a statement, a day after Jay Aissa of the group ‘Stop LRT’ released his. Aissa stated that “the proposed LRT does not confirm to, and is contrary to Section 24 of the Planning Act, Ontario which prohibits the undertaking of a public work that doesn’t conform to an official plan in effect.”
However, Seiling says an amendment made to Section 26 in 2007 meets all the requirements of the law and that Aissa is trying to stall or slow down the project by suggesting they can’t proceed.
Seiling says “quite clearly we’ve reviewed this with our lawyers, quite clearly we can and we are going to proceed.”

The recommendation will go to Regional Council on March 19th – and if it’s approved, the project will go ahead.
