VIDEO: Driver runs red light through school crossing in Kitchener

It was a busy first day of school for families across Waterloo Region, and for local police.
Waterloo regional police were out around school zones to enforce safe driving as the children returned to class.
The service has since shared one video of a driver not following the rules of road.
In the footage, the motorist can be seen going through a red light at a school crossing in Kitchener. The officer pulls the driver over and hands them a $490 ticket.
Police told CityNews Kitchener the video was taken in the Westmount Road East and Stonybrook Drive area of Kitchener.
Forest Hill Public School is located in that area. Around 550 students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 attend the school.
“Traffic laws exist for a reason: to protect children, crossing guards, and families as they travel to and from school,” said police.
“A few seconds saved behind the wheel is never worth putting someone’s safety at risk.”
