Boathouse re-opens for Sunday only

A popular music venue at Kitchener’s Victoria Park re-opened for business Sunday.

Word spread quickly via a post on Facebook from owner Kevin Doyle that the location would re-open its doors.

Doyle would only tell 570 News more information would be announced tomorrow. But other patrons at the location told reporters the venue would be open for the day until “we don’t have anything left”. The comment was in reference to food and drinks.

Friday afternoon 570 News reported Owner Kevin Doyle says the city has forced him out due to arrears in utilities.
Doyle says a letter from the city stated arrears had to be paid by 3:30 Friday September 13th or the doors would be locked.
He says it kills him to say goodbye to the Boathouse, but that he’s left no choice.

The City of Kitchener delivered an arrears notice to the operator of The Boathouse giving 30 days to meet the terms of the lease agreement. At this time, the business is not in compliance with the lease agreement but the operator remains in control of the premises. The operator is in arrears amounting to over five months of rent and utilities. The city has not taken action on this letter as the operator has until the end of the day to address the arrears.
