Puslinch Lake plane crash caused by pilot error or malfunction on plane?

There are conflicting reports about what may have caused a deadly plane crash at Puslinch Lake last October.

47 year old Russ Hawkins of Guelph died when his plane went down as he was practicing takeoffs.

The Transportation Safety Board suggests pilot error was a key factor.

However, this morning’s Record reports, a separate agency – Transport Canada –  says there may have been a malfunction on board the plane.

Hawkins was a rookie pilot.

Flight instructor Simon Kuijer, who was also on the plane, survived the crash.
