Waterloo Regional Police are continuing to investigate after an apparent drowning in Kitchener’s Victoria Park.
Around 7:30 last night, a 40-year-old Kitchener man was seen sitting near the edge of the water, close to Jubilee Street.
A few minutes later, some pedestrians noticed the man was no longer beside the chair and what appeared to be his personal items were floating in the water.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and the Kitchener Fire Department tried to search the lake for the body, but was unsuccessful.
The Niagara Regional Police Search and Rescue Dive Team was called in to help search the lake.
The man’s body was found at 11 a.m. and taken to a Hamilton hospital for an autopsy, but police say they do not suspect foul play.
The man’s next of kin have been notified. His name has not been released.
