Yellow police tape circles 199 Elm Ridge Drive in Kitchener, while Waterloo Regional Police investigate a late Friday night homicide.
At around 11:30 p.m. a man in his early twenties was discovered outside of a residence. He suffered from trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initial police reports say the man may have been involved in an altercation with two or more assailants, but police currently do not have suspect descriptions.
Police say there may have been a connection between the victim and suspects, but they cannot confirm that at this time.
Neighbouring residents are shocked to learn someone nearby was killed, “It’s unfortunate, I’m a bit nervous, but I’m not surprised,” said neighbour Barry, “Since they moved into that unit, there has been a lot of activity, coming and going. More traffic than ever, and the police have been there before several times.” When she woke up at 12:30 a.m. Saturday due to the flashing lights from emergency service vehicles, police were already an hour into their investigation.
Another neighbour, who didn’t want to be identified for fear of retaliation from criminals, said he heard three gun shots, which woke him from him sleep. Two of the shots, he said, went off immediately after each other, with the third shot fired a few moments afterward.
The body of the victim will be taken to Hamilton for an autopsy to determine cause of death.
Waterloo Regional Police mobile command post will be at the scene over the weekend and police are asking anyone with information to speak to them or call the Homicide Branch at 519-650-8500 ext 8657 or Crime Stoppers at 1 800-222-TIPS (8477).
