CMH expansion moves ahead

Tuesday’s provincial budget included some good news for Cambridge Memorial Hospital. The province has committed to funding the hospital’s expansion project.
Hospital President and CEO Patrick Gaskin says they’re pleased by the news. “The case for our project is compelling…we have a growing community and our facility is outgrowing the space it’s in…” he explains.
Gaskin says work on the project has been ongoing. “There (are) multiple stages of approval and design and right now we’re at, what is referred to as, the block schematic design stage. So, we’ve been working with the architects. Those are due later in April.”
Gaskin adds that the goal is to tender the project midway through next year. They hope to begin construction late next year or early in 2014.
