Some employers in the U.S and Canada are asking applicants for their Facebook username and password, as a way to screen applicants.
Joseph Cohen-Lyons is an associate from Hicks Morley Hamilton Stewart Storie, and he tells 570’s Jeff Allan Show, that in Canada some provinces have laws that prohibit employers from obtaining that information.
However, those provinces do not include Ontario.
Cohen-Lyons says not having laws in place that protect applicants from employers asking for their login info, could hurt their chances of getting a job if they decline to give up that information.
He says, for the most part, this practice is happening in the United States.
