The moment Kitchener Rangers fans have been waiting for is almost here.
The start of a new season following a historic championship run in May is in just a few days.
The Rangers take over the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium for the first game of the 2026-27 season on Friday, with the Owen Sound Attack coming to town.
Fans won’t just be there for the hockey, some extra decorations will be on display Friday night as well.
The championship banners will be raised and the Memorial Cup as well as the J. Ross Robertson Cup will be out for fans.
Meantime, this year’s East Avenue Blue have given fans plenty to be excited about with a nearly perfect preseason showing.
The only loss handed to the Blueshirts over the past five games has been to Oshawa, with a close 5-4 final over Fan Fest weekend.
The team wrapped up the preseason with a “W” on Saturday in Barrie.
Tanner Lam found the back of the net twice, including the game winning goal with just one second on the clock. The final score was 3-2.
In three games he has played, Lam is the team leader in both goals and points with four and seven respectively.
Including the home opener, the Rangers will be on the ice twice this week.
They head to Owen Sound Saturday, for a 7 p.m. game at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
