Maple Leaf to shut down plant in Ayr

Maple Leaf Foods is shutting down its chicken processing plant in Ayr.

175 people will be out of a job.

This comes just four months after announcing that it was closing the Kitchener Schneiders plant in 2014.

The plant in Ayr is due to close in May. The company says the closure is part of a plan to consolidate its poultry operations at its plants in Brantford and Mississauga.

The work will be transferred to the company’s other operations, with 75 new jobs created at the Mississauga plant.
