TORONTO – Premier Dalton McGuinty will officially name his cabinet today but sources say it will be leaner — and lack any new faces.
The new, reduced cabinet will include 22 ministers, including the premier, down from the previous 28.
A source says the cabinet has the experience needed to steer Ontario through an uncertain global economy, which McGuinty has repeatedly cited as his key priority.
Finance Minister Dwight Duncan was re-appointed immediately after the election, and tasked with preparing an economic update, will also become deputy premier.
Attorney General Chris Bentley will move to the energy ministry, Deb Matthews will remain as health minister, and Laurel Broten will be promoted to education.
Despite speculation that a member of the opposition may cross the floor to give the government a majority, the new cabinet does not include any defectors from the Progressive Conservatives or N-D-P.
Locally, Kitchener Centre MPP John Milloy will reportedly become House leader as well as Minister of Community and Social Services.
