As lane closures continue on Ira Needles Boulevard for road resurfacing, the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) is investigating reports of one person who threatened a worker in the area.
On Thursday around 10:25 p.m., during a full overnight closure of the roadway, police were told a passenger in a rideshare vehicle pulled a gun on worker near Yellow Birch Drive.
“Through the investigation, it was determined that the driver of a rideshare vehicle attempted to travel through a section of Ira Needles Boulevard that was closed for construction,” said WRPS.
“When the construction worker approached the vehicle and advised that the road was closed, a passenger exited the vehicle, brandished a firearm, and threatened the worker.”
No one was hurt in the alleged incident, with the suspect last seen on Yellow Birch Drive in Kitchener.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
The $4.5 million road resurfacing plan on Ira Needles has been underway since mid-August, with Region of Waterloo officials expecting the project to be complete by October of this year.
The overnight closures on Ira Needles are expected to shift to the portion of roadway between University Avenue West and Highland Road West starting Sept. 8.
Crews will start overnight paving through to Erb Street West on Sept. 16.
