Is the show over?

The end may be near for a popular local music venue.

The Boathouse in Victoria Park could close its doors for good October 23rd unless it’s able to reach a new lease agreement with the city.

This morning’s Record reports, the two sides are far apart on a new contract.

The paper reports the city wants to hike its rent from $2,000 to almost $4,000 a month.

As well, the city reportedly wants the patio to be closed by 11 p.m.

It would be a significant blow for local musicians since about 1,500 of them performed at the Boathouse in the last year.

All this comes as the city prepares to embark on dredging the pond at Victoria Park later this fall.

A public information session on that project and general improvements to the park is slated for tomorrow evening starting at six.

It’s taking place in the Downtown Community Centre on Weber Street West.
