Province looking into banning booze on transit

VICTORIA (NEWS1130) – This week’s riot report included a recommendation to consider banning alcohol on public transit and Solicitor General Shirley Bond says it’s a fair question to pursue.

“In specific circumstances, should we disallow the transport of alcohol on, for example, the Canada Line?”

She says she’s taking the recommendation very seriously.  “SkyTrain was delivering 500 people every 90 seconds into the downtown core, many of whom had either been drinking or were carrying alcohol with them.”

Bond adds the province is already looking into it.  “I’ve asked the Liquor Control Board to look at what the implications of that recommendation are.  It needs to be done in consultation.”
