A long lost aircraft has been found

The Ontario Provincial Police have discovered an aircraft that crashed into another plane during a search and rescue mission 71 years ago over Lake Muskoka.
The first plane was found within weeks and the bodies of it’s pilots were recovered.
The pilots of the second plane, 24-year old Flight Lieutenant Peter Cambpell of the Royal Air Force and Guelph native 27-year old observer, Leading Aircraftsman Theodore (Ted) Bates went down with that plane, identified as Northrop Industries A-17 Nomad #3521. That plane has now been discovered along with some of the airmen’s personal belongings.
Tom Bates of Guelph is Ted’s brother, and he tells 570 News that news of the planes discovery brings him closure, “it’s been a long and they’ve had quite a time finding it but the search and rescue of the OPP say the boys have found it.”
Bates remembers his brother fondly, “he was a pretty cleaver person, really an active person, he was well known as a musician, played with Lynn Hopkins Band in Ottawa at the Shadow Laurier, and he was also a private pilot.”
The Coroner’s Office and the OPP have closed their missing persons case and that it’s likely the remains are no longer recoverable.
