Waterloo Sexual Assault – Update

Investigators are canvassing the neighbourhood around Bricker Ave in Waterloo today.

This is in response to a sexual assault that happened around 1:45 Thursday morning.

Police say a 21-year-old woman was walking along Bricker Avenue when she was approached from behind, grabbed, knocked to the ground and sexually assaulted.

Regional Police Spokesman Olaf Heinzel tells 570 news “the command post gives us an opportunity to create some visibility in the neighbourhood and also act as a central area for operations relating to the canvassing we’re doing.”

Heinzel says that there is no time limit as to how long investigators will be in the neighbourhood.

He says that in a situation like this it is very important for investigators to talk to residents in the neighbourhood as the fresher the information is, the more likely they will have a recollection to something that they have seen.

Police are asking anyone with information call the Major Case Unit at 519-650-8500 ext. 8672, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
