C-diff outbreak at 10 Ontario hospitals

The province now has 10 hospitals with cases of C. difficile.
Guelph General Hospital declared an outbreak on Tuesday after an increased number of cases in May and June. They have not had any new cases reported in the last two weeks.
However, the death toll reached 18 in the Niagara Region yesterday. The Province sent in a field epidemiologist to Niagara where 4 of the 10 hospitals are located.
Infectious Disease Specialist, Dr. William Ciccotelli tells 570 News, this strain of C-diff is more serious than previous ones the province has seen. He says diarrhea is its most common symptom but the severity of the illness can vary.
On average, about 160 to 200 Ontarians die each year from the easily-spread infection
