Be ready for traffic delays on Hespeler Road. Construction is set to begin this morning on bridge to carry the busy street over the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks.
The Record reports that the 18-month project will cost about $25 million. Preparation work has already been going on for the past few months just north of The Delta, including moving buried wires and utilities and demolishing a church.
Before building the bridge, workers will create diversion lanes to the west of Hespeler and temporary railway crossing gates.
The goal is to keep the road open during rush hours but lanes will be narrower than normal. Lanes may be closed outside rush hours and officials say there will still be pedestrian access.
The project is expected to wrap up at the end of next year.
