Local TV on satellite

Satellite TV users will eventually be able to get their local news on satellite. It’s after a decision by the CRTC today.

Dennis Watson is Vice President and General Manager of CTV Southwestern Ontario. He says Bell had already agreed to carry the stations when they acquired CTV, but the CRTC’s decision also includes Shaw Direct.

Watson says it’s great news for local satellite users because they won’t have to rely on other technologies to get their local news. He says, “Many of them have relied on over-the-air and they’ve either kept a spare TV set on rabbit ears or an antenna….in some cases…in the urban markets they’ve actually kept a cable package like Rogers to be able to watch their local station.”

Local TV stations should be available on satellite by the end of next year.
