Weekend blaze downtown

It took a number of hours for Kitchener Fire crews to bring a downtown blaze under control yesterday.
It was a blaze that began on King Street around 3a.m. Sunday morning and did significant damage to The Stag Shop and several other businesses in the area.
The apartments above the store were evacuated and no injuries were reported.

While the cost of damages has not been determined, Kitchener Fire Chief Tim Beckett tells 570 News that the King Street block at Queen could be closed well into today for the investigation.
That closure is necessary to allow investigators to determine the cause and to secure the structural instability of the building.
