Grapes pushes for defibrillators

Hockey Night in Canada’s Don Cherry is calling on the Premier to pass a bill that would require defibrillators to be installed in all public buildings in the province.
Cherry made the comments during the unveiling of a defibrillator installed at the Hockey Hall of Fame today.
This day also marks the 5th anniversary of 11 year old Chase McEachern’s death.
McEachern died from complications due to cardiac arrest and was an advocate for defibrillators in public places.
Bill 41 is the first legislation of its kind in Canada and is currently in its third reading.
Many residents in the region say they support the legislation, but only if people are trained on the use of the devices.
“There’s no point in having them unless people are aware of what to do with them,” one man tells 570 News.
Sam Abisaab with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario says the devices are easy to use because the contain a computer that tells the operator what to do.
More than 200 defibrillators have been installed in Waterloo Region, many of them in schools.
