Morning evacuation

There was a brief but worrisome emergency in the heart of Waterloo’s high tech sector this morning.
Waterloo Fire and Rescue evacuated the Accelerator Centre for a little more than an hour after staff there called in a gas leak.
This happened around 7:20 this morning.
Susan Perrin, Event Manager at the Centre, tells 570 News a smell of gas was detected on the third floor.
Waterloo Fire and Rescue spokesperson, John Percy, tells 570 News there was a minor gas leak to a floor heating unit.
The gas was shutoff to the heating unit and the occupants of the building were allowed back inside.
About two dozen staff from various offices in the high tech centre on Hagey Blvd. huddled on the sidewalk or waited in their cars until they got the all clear at 8:30.
Union Gas technicians also attended the scene and helped determine the source of the gas leak.
There were no injuries.
